As part of its 2012 infrastructure program, the Department of Water Management will begin a new water main project in our ward. Some 1,488 feet of water main will be installed on Lawrence Ave. from Menard to Central. The project will begin late this month and is anticipated to be completed by late June.
The good news is that this change will increase the availability of water for both fire protection and domestic use in the area. With an eye toward efficiency, the effort is being combined with a resurfacing project to fix the eastbound traffic and parking lanes as well as any damaged parkway and sidewalk in the affected area.
The bad news is that this will result in reroutes and closures in the area. I will work to keep you updated on this project as it moves forward, and I thank you for your patience with some of the temporary inconveniences that inevitably come with infrastructure improvements.
