After only a short couple of months of construction, I was thrilled to cut the ribbon on the new turf field, playground, and outdoor classroom at Farnsworth Elementary, 5414 N. Linder, on Friday, December 7.
Plans for this improvement first won community support in 2016 during the participatory budgeting process. Since then, my office has worked closely with Chicago Public Schools, Space to Grow, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, and the Office of Budget and Management to build this $1.2 million public asset.
Not only is the field great for students, but it also is designed to keep stormwater out of our sewers and basements. This playground and turf field will add to the well-rounded education that our students deserve and continue to build pride in our neighborhood schools.
