As a resident of our community, you may be aware of the recent rash of gang tagging at Leclaire and Argyle, by Beaubien Elementary. I’ve been concerned about this activity for quite some time, and I know from your calls to my office that you’re worried about it as well. This concern is more than just understandable; it’s part of good citizenship. I have been in close contact with the 16th District Police Commander on the matter, and the Chicago Graffiti Blasters have been out to clean up the area regularly.
I greatly appreciate the hard work of the Chicago Police Department and Streets & Sanitation. However, it’s time we as a community did our part to support these efforts. We must declare publicly that we will not stand silently by while our community is defaced.
I invite you to join me tomorrow (Thursday, February 16) at 4 p.m. as the third shift of the 16th District holds its roll call on site at 5100 W. Argyle St. This will be a powerful, public way for us to make our concerns and commitment visible to all. Stand with me—and stand with the police officers who defend our streets—to say we will not accept such attacks on the beauty and peace of our community.
Thank you for your dedication to the safety of our neighborhoods,
Alderman John Arena
