Eight Classrooms Added at Hitch Elementary
Hitch Elementary School, a level 1+ school in the Gladstone Park neighborhood, received a much needed modular in 2014 to address school overcrowding on the Northwest Side. Chicago Public Schools announced the decision after years of advocacy from my office, the local principal, and the local school council.
In addition to providing kids with additional classroom space, the modular enabled the school to convert some building rooms back to their original use, allowing a space where children can continue to receive a comprehensive and holistic approach to their education.
The modular was named after the late Principal Deborah Reese, who tragically passed away in 2014 after a fierce battle to cancer.
Hitch Receives New Turf Field and Playground
In February 2017, I secured $36 million in funds for various improvements to 45th Ward schools. A portion of these funds were allocated to provide Hitch Elementary with a new turf field and playground.
On September 5, 2017, Hitch Elementary School and my office hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony in partnership with Gen-Ki Karate and Fly Girl Dance and Fitness.
I would like to extend my gratitude to the Hitch Elementary LSC, who long advocated for the improved field.
