Gateway Apartments Approved by Chicago Plan Commission
On Thursday, the Chicago Plan Commission approved the proposal to build a four-story mixed-use apartment building at 5201 W. Lawrence.
The proposal is for the lot that has remained vacant for more than a decade across from the Copernicus Center. The building will act as a gateway to Jefferson Park, offering a more aesthetically appealing site as people enter the neighborhood from the Kennedy Expressway.
The plans call for 39 apartment units on top of street-level retail space. Also included in the plans are a plaza and 62 parking spaces.
This is the first piece of the revitalization efforts in Jefferson Park. By reasonably increasing density near the transit center, we increase the buying power of the neighborhood to support local businesses.
