Sears to Close Six Corners Location this Summer
I am saddened, but not surprised, to learn that Sears plans to close their location at Six Corners this summer, their last store in Chicago. With Sears’s well-documented issues, this was not unexpected. That’s why I have discussed the future of the site with the owners, Seritage Growth Properties. I have made sure they are aware of the Six Corners Master Plan so they will be mindful of the goals our community set forth. They are aggressively marketing the property, and I look forward to being able to present a specific plan soon.
Although the closing is a challenge, the redevelopment of the site also presents a unique opportunity. In just a few years, we’ve seen Binny’s, Culver’s, Retro Fitness, Community Tavern, Fischman’s, Josi’s, Distinct Bath & Body, along with many, many others decide to call Six Corners home. That progress will continue.
This corner will remain an anchor to the shopping district. We are now presented with an opportunity to attract businesses who will bring the same dedication to the community and call Six Corners home for another 80 years.
I would like to thank Sears for their commitment to the area and for their role in making Six Corners a shopping destination. I wish their leadership and employees the best of luck as they embark on new ventures.
