The mixed-used, mixed-income building for veterans and those with disabilities at 5150 N. Northwest Highway is on the agenda for the Department of Planning’s September 13 hearing.
Leading up to this hearing, I have heard much feedback on this development from all parties; beginning with the first community meeting in February 2017, the numerous meetings with community groups and various stakeholders, the four-hour City Hall zoning hearing, the community teleconference, and the dozens of ward nights in between. Throughout, the one thing that has resonated with me is the overwhelming number of local, long-time residents that have either approached me personally or contacted my office inquiring how they can apply for a unit in this building. Adding it all up, I feel this building is a step in the right direction toward helping our residents remain in their community while providing them with quality accessible housing within close proximity to a myriad of resources.
If you would like to learn more about this development, leave feedback, or sign up for the interest list, you may do so on the builder’s website. Of course, you can always attend a Ward Night most Tuesdays from 5-7 pm in my office at 4754 N. Milwaukee, email Ward45@cityofchicago.org, or call 773-286-4545.
I look forward to continuing to work with residents to attract a variety of housing options to meet the diverse needs of the residents of the 45th Ward.
