I am pleased to announce continued progress in the revitalization of downtown Jefferson Park. The owner of the vacant lot at 4900 N. Milwaukee has proposed a mixed-use development for the empty space directly across Milwaukee from the Jefferson Park Transit Center.
The plans call for ground floor commercial space, three floors of apartments, and an owner-occupied penthouse set back from the street. The plan includes 9,870 square feet of commercial space, 31 dwelling units, and 9 parking spaces (None are required adjacent to a transit center.) This developer also successfully rehabbed the building at 4872 N. Milwaukee, where Weston’s Coffee & Tap is located.
The revitalization of the Jefferson Park business corridor has been a top priority for me since first becoming your alderman in 2011. With the development of 5201 W. Lawrence underway, the recent opening of Starbucks, the $25 million renovation to the Jefferson Park Transit Center, Weston’s, and other projects in the pipeline- we have made significant strides towards progress. I believe this development will continue to breathe new life into downtown Jefferson Park.
I hope you will join me on Monday, November 19, at 6:30 pm in the annex space at the Copernicus Center, 5214 W. Lawrence, to learn more about this proposal.
